Equipment operators, are you up to the challenge?

Caterpillar® and WesTrac are on a quest to find the world’s best equipment operator at this year’s Cat Global Operator Challenge.

The global event, which pits equipment operators against one another in a series of skills tests, attracted more than 10,000 competitors from 30 countries when it first launched in 2019. And this year, Caterpillar expects it to be the largest event of its kind that the world has ever seen.

As one of the world’s leading Cat® dealers, WesTrac are running knockout heats and finals in WA and NSW/ACT. The winners from each state, who will be selected in August and September, will then move on to the Asia Pacific final in Japan this October. From there the ultimate top performers will compete at the world final at CONEXPO-CON/AGG 2023 in Las Vegas.

The event involves operators completing various challenges using a range of Cat construction machines to demonstrate safety, speed, agility and accuracy.

WesTrac NSW General Manager Construction Industries Alister Cant said the competition is a one-of-a-kind event, continuing the WesTrac tradition of celebrating the people behind the equipment and enabling operators to showcase their exceptional skills in fun and dynamic ways.

“The Cat Global Operator Challenge will be demanding for even the most experienced operators. They will need to show their mastery of both the machine and the technology to get a chance to compete in Japan,” Alister said.

WesTrac WA Construction Product Manager Mark Turkington said the event allowed equipment operators a rare chance to jump into the spotlight to showcase their exceptional talents and ultimately vie for the “world’s best” title.

“Operators are often required to work in isolation and may not get a lot of accolades in spite of having some serious skills,” Mark said.

“The Challenge provides an opportunity for business owners to nominate their operators – or themselves – to demonstrate and celebrate just how much skill is involved in the things they do every day.”

For more information and to register yourself or one of your operators, see Cat Global Operator Challenge. But you’ll have to be quick. Registrations close on Friday 15 July (WA) and Sunday 31 July 2022 (NSW/ACT).
