Quality equipment and technology help build a brand

With the $4.9 billion Woolgoolga to Ballina highway 60% complete, Queensland based, Cooper Civil has been active in the final link of the Pacific Highway upgrade. During their time working on the four-lane project between Hexham and the Queensland border, they’re secured a solid reputation with their expertise, quality gear and experienced operators.

Comprising of 14 team members, a modern fleet of GPS equipped 14-25 Tonne CAT excavators, positive safety culture and a flexible approach to work methods and client requirements, Cooper Civil has sustained steady growth in the civil construction industry since their 2015 inception. Operating in south east Queensland and northern New South Wales, Melbourne is now on the horizon for Cooper Civil as the company’s brand as a reputable plant hire company continue to grow.

Buying quality equipment and technology then pairing these with top shelf operators is how Cooper Civil is building its brand says general manager, Josh Mudge, who heads up the comprehensive HSE systems for their safety culture.

“The right people and equipment are an important success factor for the business,” says Josh. “We provide clients with the best equipment and operators available, and work closely with them to achieve the desired outcome, all with safety in mind.”

For their larger or more complex projects, Cooper Civil rely on their modern fleet of CAT excavators with fitted Trimble Earthworks GPS units. With over 17 years’ experience in the Civil earth works industry, managing director, Rhys Cooper says tilt hitches are also a must.  With a large portion of the highway upgrade completed with a Doherty Tilt hitch fitted to a CAT 323, it makes trimming work highly efficient, he says.

“The challenges on the upgrade project start with the fast pace of the job. Having a solid tilt hitch saves us and the client time and money,” highlights Rhys. “We’re constantly having to change attachments and work in areas requiring a magic wand or a Doherty Tilt hitch.”

“At times we use our buckets on backwards and having the dexterity of a tilt hitch allows us to complete tasks faster and cleaner for the client.”

It was the solid reputation, safety features and increased productivity which saw the Doherty D-Lock Tilt hitch become a preferred attachment for the team at Cooper Civil. Having been aware of Doherty hitches and their good reputation for some time, last year Josh and Rhys decided to fit one to their latest CAT 323 excavator

“We can’t fault this hitch and have had nothing but promising feedback from our operators who’ve worked this machine,” says Josh.

Rhys says he’s also impressed with the quality of the tilt hitch as well as the customer support provided by the Doherty team. “We absolutely love this hitch and its smooth operation – there’s no play in it. And the after sales support from Doherty is brilliant.

“Doherty are the go-to for tilt hitches. We wish we’d started using them when we started our business!”
